One common sign of a toxic liver is pain. If you experience pain in your liver, it can show that the liver is not filtering toxins properly. The liver is placed on the upper right side of your abdomen. It is located just under your diaphragm and is extremely large. While liver problems generally cause a dull pain, the pain can sometimes become unbearable.

Swelling is a sign that something is not working properly. If you ignore your liver issues, your liver has to try to heal and repair itself. It does this by making scar tissue. As the scar tissue builds up, it prevents the liver from working right. Before long, this can cause portal hypertension. This kind of hypertension basically means that portal veins have a higher blood pressure than normal. This leads to swelling in your legs as the fluids start to build up.

Weight gain is an easy sign to notice. If you live a healthy lifestyle, you should not suddenly gain a lot of weight. As long as you work out and have a balanced diet, your weight should remain relatively the same. When you suddenly develop unexpected weight gain, it is a sign that something is going wrong in your body. You need to go to your doctor to see if this is caused by liver issues, a hormonal imbalance, or something else. Sometimes, the liver loses its ability to filter toxins. Instead of filtering them, it stores the toxins in your fat cells. For you to lose weight, you have to help you liver return to normal.

Allergies

Interestingly, liver problems can also cause allergic reactions to develop. If your liver cannot filter toxins, then more toxins and substances will go into your bloodstream. Your body and mind may recognize these toxins as potential allergens. When this happens, the mind releases antibodies to combat the allergens. This can lead to itchy rashes and other symptoms of an allergy. When your liver is functioning well, this problem should go away.

This is another common sign of toxins in the liver. If your skin and eyes suddenly turn yellow, it is known as jaundice. This is a symptom of liver damage. It might occur because of a disease or an underperforming liver. When you have jaundice, it is a sign that something is going wrong with your liver. This symptom happens because a yellow pigment called bilirubin accumulates in the body. This pigment is made when dead red blood cells break down. Normally, your liver processes bilirubin. When the liver is not working well, bilirubin builds up in the body and causes jaundice.

Chronic fatigue is not feeling exhausted for a day or two. It is extended, unavoidable fatigue that lasts for at least six months. No matter how much you sleep, you are unable to feel rested. While there are many causes of this condition, one common cause is a toxic liver. Your liver is responsible for transforming glucose into glycogen before storing it away. Your body needs glycogen for energy. If your liver is not functioning properly, it is unable to create, store and release glycogen. As a result, you feel like you are constantly exhausted.

In 2005, Harvard Medical School released a study about cholesterol levels. In the study, they found that high levels of cholesterol were linked to liver disease. If your cholesterol levels suddenly increased, it could be a sign that your liver is toxic.

A toxic liver can quickly become dangerous. To prevent liver issues, avoid drinking alcohol. When you consume alcohol, it can damage the liver's cells and cause scarring. Over time, it can even cause cirrhosis. A healthy diet, alcohol avoidance and exercise can help your liver function properly.

You can also protect the liver by being careful about the supplements you use. Some supplements can harm your liver, so make sure to talk to your doctor before using them. There are also supplements like chanca piedra and milk thistle seeds that are said to restore your liver. Since there is not strong evidence to support these supplement's claims, it is important to exercise caution before using any herbal remedy.
